Alex Ovechkin has been in the spotlight for some time, but not because of his on ice performances. As Russia invaded Ukraine, a lot of people asked the Capitals captain to take position on that matter, mostly because he is known to be a supporter of President Vladimir Putin.
For the record, Ovechkin apparently wanted to change this picture to a symbol of world peace after his press conference where he basically asked for the war to end and that we needed to live in a peaceful world.
However, he didn't do it because of potential backlash. His family is still in Russia so he didn't want to take any chances on that. We understand a little more why the greatest goalscorer of our time didn't change his Instagram profile picture...
