Over the past few weeks, General Manager Danny Briere has made it clear that he has no intention of keeping the existing makeup of the Flyers from last season. The newly minted general manager made his first big splash when he moved beleaguered and controversial defenseman Ivan Provorov in a three-way deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings.

That trade garnished the Flyers with numerous draft picks and a few players who will help bolster the lineup by contributing to a better season or being traded at the deadline next year.
Rumours were circulating that the Flyers and the St. Louis Blues were in talks to construct a mega trade that would have involved sending two core players to the Blues in exchange for two other core players.

However, that deal fell through, and Briere was able to move Kevin Hayes in a salary dump scenario.
It now appears that the focus has shifted to defenseman Travis Sanheim. Sanheim was rumoured to be part of the St. Louis deal, but that did not materialize, and the Flyers have continued to hold him as a valuable asset for future moves.
According to reports, the Canucks and the Jets have shown interest in acquiring Sanheim's services. He is currently signed for another eight seasons at an AAV (average annual value) of $6.25 million, which will become a more affordable contract as the salary cap begins to rise again.
The only drawback is that a no-trade clause kicked in on July 1st, which will remain in effect for the first four years of his deal. For him to be moved, Briere would need to seek his permission to waive the no-trade clause.
In the 2027-2028 season, his no-trade clause would become a modified no-trade clause, where he would have to submit a 12-team list to Briere.
It remains to be seen whether Briere will approach Sanheim with this question, but for now, the Flyers do have a bona fide top-four defenseman in their ranks for the upcoming season.
