The Mercyhurst University hockey team has announced that Carson Briere, the son of Philadelphia Flyers' interim general manager Daniel Briere, has been dismissed from the team. The reason for his removal stems from criminal charges that Briere is currently facing. Last month, surveillance video surfaced showing him allegedly pushing an empty wheelchair down a flight of stairs.
Days after his father, Danny, was named the General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers, Carson Briere, a junior and center on the Mercyhurst University hockey team, has been charged with criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct, along with Patrick Carrozzi, who is believed to be a senior on the Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team. The charges stem from an incident at Sullivan's Pub and Eatery in Erie on March 11, where the pair allegedly damaged an empty wheelchair. The owner of the chair filed a report at the Erie police station on March 13, a day before a video of the incident surfaced.
Briere has since expressed remorse, stating that he is "deeply sorry" for his actions. In response to the incident, Mercyhurst University initially announced that Briere, along with two other students, would be suspended from their athletic teams as per school policy, pending the outcome of the investigation. The arraignment for Briere and Carrozzi is scheduled for May 22.
