After an illustrious 19-season career as an NHL head coach across four teams, Alain Vigneault has officially announced his retirement from coaching, as reported by French-Canadian outlet RDS.
Vigneault, who is still under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers despite being fired in December 2021, emphasized that his last coaching contract would be his final one and that he has no plans to return.
With over 1,363 games behind the bench, Vigneault ranks 15th in NHL history for most games coached. Although he never won the Stanley Cup, he achieved over 700 wins, a feat accomplished by only nine other coaches in NHL history.
Vigneault's coaching journey began with the Montreal Canadiens in 1997-98 and continued with the Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers, and ultimately the Philadelphia Flyers. His most notable success came with the Canucks, leading them to back-to-back Presidents' Trophies and an appearance in the Stanley Cup Final in 2011.
However, they fell short to the Boston Bruins in a thrilling seven-game series.
