Unfortunately, during Thursday night's game against the Flyers, Derrick Brassard, the Ottawa Senators center, sustained a serious injury. While tangled with Flyers goalie Felix Sandstrom, Brassard fell awkwardly and let out a scream of pain. Tragically, it was later revealed that he had broken his fibula and required surgery.

The arena fell silent as fans and players alike waited to see how severe the injury was. Ankle injuries are notoriously difficult to recover from, and it's possible that Brassard may never fully regain his previous level of athleticism. This is particularly devastating given that he was having an outstanding season with the Senators, having played 62 games and scored 13 goals, with 10 assists for 23 points and a +3 rating.
To make matters worse, this is an extremely bad update as Brassard's broken fibula will likely sideline him for the remainder of the season and plenty of off-season time will have to be spent off his feet. We wish him a speedy and full recovery.
