As the Colorado Avalanche faced off against the Seattle Kraken in Game 4, the hockey world was still buzzing with the Kraken's surprising success this season and their impressive start in the playoffs. However, despite earning their first home playoff win, the Kraken suffered a significant loss after a critical player was injured due to a dirty hit by Cale Makar.
Early in the game, with the Kraken once again taking the lead, Makar appeared to be searching for a way to spark his team when he delivered a vicious hit against Kraken forward Jared McCann. Despite the puck being nowhere near the play, Makar hit McCann in a vulnerable and unsuspecting spot, sending him crashing hard into the boards.

Although the play was initially called a five-minute major, it was somehow reduced to a minor penalty after an official initiated a review. While it's possible that the officials didn't view the hit as severe as a typical boarding call since Makar made contact with McCann's shoulders, the fact that McCann was in a vulnerable position and away from the puck makes it an especially dangerous hit.
The Kraken will now have to overcome the loss of one of their key players, which will be a tough task as they try to continue their remarkable playoff run. Meanwhile, the Avalanche will have to manage without their star defensemen Cale Makar for one game.
