Forwards Departure from Pittsburgh Penguins
This past summer, veteran winger Andreas Johnsson entered into a one-year, one-way contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, aiming to prolong his NHL career. Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan as Johnsson failed to secure a spot on the Penguins' roster during training camp. After clearing waivers over a month ago, he chose not to report to the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
It now appears that Johnsson's tenure with the Penguins is nearing its end. Reports from Hans Abrahamsson and Tomas Ros of Sportbladet indicate that he is on the verge of signing a three-year contract with Skellefte AIK in the Swedish Hockey League.

Contract Termination Underway For The Penguins Forward
To make this transition possible, Johnsson will need to terminate his existing contract with the Penguins. If these reports from Sweden hold true, Johnsson is expected to be placed on waivers with the aim of mutually terminating his contract. Once the waivers process concludes, he will be free to join Skellefte.
Initially, Johnsson had high hopes for his time in Pittsburgh, especially under the guidance of GM Kyle Dubas. While Dubas wasn't part of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization when Johnsson was drafted in the seventh round of the 2013 Draft, he played a pivotal role in his development. When Johnsson first arrived in North America in 2016, Dubas was already managing the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
Over the past few seasons, the 28-year-old winger has experienced a gradual decline in his career trajectory, including stints with the New Jersey Devils and a brief period with the San Jose Sharks.
