In July of 2022, Ivan Fedotov, was arrested for evasion of military service, and was forced to serve the time and is now playing for the CSKA hockey team in Russia.

Since then Fedotov's career and life have been nothing but a roller coaster of emotions, especially recently. Over this past month and into June, Ivan Fedotov has been involved in legal matters that have gone back and forth with seemingly no end in sight.
More recently on July 8, Ivan Fedotov actually signed a two-year contract with the CSKA, even though it was expected that he would actually be able to come over into the USA.

It was reported that his contract would not be registered but as the weeks wore on it brought a lot of back and forth and ultimately resulted in the signing.
Now to no prevail, there has been another change in Ivan Fedotov's contract and future. On July 30, TSN Insider Darren Dregar, reported that the NHL and Philadelphia Flyers will be appealing Ivan Fedotov's contract based on him missing last season due to his military service in Russia. The IIHF has now gotten involved and is now looking into the situation.
Darren followed up his report with more information regarding the situation and it brings new light into a door everyone thought was closed.
JP Barry of CAA Sports, issued the following statement. «We spoke to Ivan today and his position is that he will abide by the ruling of the IIHF regarding which contract (Flyers or CSKA) is currently valid and binding. He simply wants to resume his career as soon as possible.»
It is clear Ivan Fedotov is pretty fed up with all the news and just wants to play hockey again. However, he may be able to continue his career in the NHL if the NHL were to «win» this appeal.
It's unknown how it would be for Ivan Fedotov to make it out of Russia even if the NHL were to prevail, Russia doesn't usually just sit back and watch. But Ivan Fedotov is open to abiding by the new found agreement and it's clear the Philadelphia Flyers organization would love to have him come over.
Things continue to be a waiting game but hopefully this means freedom for the goalie not just for his career but his life in general.
