Rick Jeanneret, the iconic play-by-play voice of the Buffalo Sabres, passed away at the age of 81, as confirmed by the team. Known for his dynamic style and memorable calls, Jeanneret's 51-year career with the Sabres left an indelible mark.

Jeanneret's exuberant commentary, particularly during pivotal goals and fights, resonated with NHL fans across borders. His renowned "May Day, May Day" call during Brad May's overtime goal in the 1993 Stanley Cup Playoffs stands among his most cherished moments, symbolizing Buffalo's playoff triumph after a decade-long drought.
Teaming up with Sabres legend Ted Darling, Jeanneret began as a radio analyst during Buffalo's 1971-72 season before transitioning to television in 1995. In 1997, a simulcast format was introduced, showcasing Jeanneret's versatile skills alongside partners Jim Lorentz, Harry Neale, and Rob Ray.
Jeanneret gradually reduced his travel to road games in his later years, allowing eventual successor Dan Dunleavy to assume more play-by-play responsibilities. The 2021-22 NHL season marked Jeanneret's final stint, aptly named "RJ's Last Call." Throughout the year, the team honored his legacy with highlights during broadcasts, underscoring his enduring impact on the sport and the fans.
