The World Hockey Championships are set to begin on May 12th in Tampere, Finland. The tournament is expected to be exciting, with Finland and the USA kicking it off. However, one notable prospect won't be joining the tournament.
According to Jeff Marek's tweet, Connor Bedard, a top prospect for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, won't be taking part in the World Hockey Championships in May. No reason was given for his absence, but it's safe to assume that he doesn't want to risk injury in his draft-eligible year.
Bedard's Regina Pats were eliminated from the playoffs by the Saskatoon Blades in seven games, cutting his postseason run short. Nonetheless, Bedard's performance was impressive, as he recorded 20 points against the Blades.
It's unfortunate that the world won't get to see Bedard's talent on display at the World Hockey Championships, especially given his success at the 2023 World Juniors, where he recorded 23 points. Nonetheless, hockey fans will be eagerly awaiting his performance in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.
