Danny Briere is The Reason Why John Tortorella Was Hired
The Philadelphia Flyers made a bold move by hiring John Tortorella as their new head coach. While Tortorella had a solid coaching record at the time, many were surprised by the move given his fiery personality and contentious relationship with the media.
However, it turns out that one of the driving forces behind Tortorella's hiring was Flyers forward Danny Briere. In an interview with The Athletic, Briere revealed that he had played for Tortorella on the United States Men's National Team and had a great deal of respect for him as a coach.
Briere reportedly spoke to Flyers management and advocated for Tortorella, citing his ability to get the best out of his players and his no-nonsense approach to coaching. In the end, Briere's endorsement helped to sway the Flyers in Tortorella's favor, and he was hired as the team's new head coach.
