As the 7th overall pick in the NHL entry draft in 2023, Matvei Michkov fell into the Philadelphia Flyers' lap.

With Michkov's stellar scouting reports, it appeared he would be the next superstar of the team.
Are we scared? Yes, like everyone else. That's probably why he fell to us at #7.

We hope and trust that one day he'll want to come and play. We know he wants to play in the NHL, but a lot of things have to fall into place.

Briere and the team may, however, be regretting their decisions right now.

For now, Michkov has been benched multiple times and even demoted as he learns his new role as a center at SKA St. Petersburg, so we'll have to wait until at least three years to see if Michkov becomes the star he's supposed to be in the NHL.
Michkov's defensive game improved this week after an apparent benching because he must have paid attention to his coach's criticism. Being only 18 years old and not even in his prime, he has time to develop and could still become a major star.
