Ex-Flyer acquires Russian Citizenship
Hockey players in the NHL may have multiple attempts at making it in the professional league.
If they fail to secure a spot, they may move down to the AHL for a longer period. However, this is not the case for a former Philadelphia Flyer.
According to David Alter from Sports Illustrated, Brennan Menell has been granted Russian citizenship.
First there was word that former Marlies forward Brendan Leipsic was applying for Russian citizenship. Now comes word that former Marlies D-man Brennan Menell actually got it. ⤵️ #Leafs

It seems that Brendan Leipsic started the process, but Menell was the first to successfully secure citizenship.
Menell recently signed a 3-year extension with the KHL's Dynamo Moscow and has chosen to ignore calls from the US State Department and other government entities to return to the United States. These are definitely strange times.
