The Toronto Maple Leafs originally claimed Martin Jones off waivers, after Jones had a decent season as a backup for the Seattle Kraken last year.

As part of the Leafs' waiver wire, Jones was primarily used to free up cap space.
Notable #NHL waivers (Oct. 8): Raphael Lavoie (EDM), Martin Jones (TOR), Magnus Hellberg (PIT), Jared Anderson-Dolan (LAK), Joel Armia (MTL).

Today is the last day for teams to waive players in order to clear to set Opening Day rosters by 5pm ET on Monday.

In the Toronto Marlies system, Jones will serve as the third goalie for the Maple Leafs, having lost the backup job to rookie Joseph Woll, who performed well in last season's playoffs.
Once again, Martin Jones will have to wait for an injury or a trade to get a chance to play meaningful minutes in the NHL in the future.
For now, however, he is an insurance policy in the Maple Leafs 3 goalie system.
