As reported by Flyers insider Brandon J. Sommermann, the Flyers are exploring and considering all options come this year's NHL draft. This includes moving the fifth overall selection via trade for a sniper or potentially trading down in the draft.

"Have heard some chatter over the last few days that the Flyers are exploring trade back options. Would take at least another 1st *IMO to make it happen. But if both RHD - Nemec & Jiricek - are still on the board at #5, its something PHI may have to consider."

The main consensus going forward right now is that Shane Wright, Logan Cooley, and Juraj Slafkovsky will go one, two, three. If that leaves both Nemec and Jiricek as the next best options, trading down in order to get two first round picks instead of selecting at 5 is something Fletcher must look at.

According to Sommermann, this would most likely happen if all the top-4 offensive prospects in this year's draft are gone by pick #5. The Flyers need NHL ready guys who play offence. There is not much room for a new right-handed defenseman in the system right now.
"Could trade down 2-4 spots, gain a pick, and still get same value at 5. Not a definite. But something that would have to consider. Especially if a team came offering two 1st round picks."

Nemec and Jiricek project to be a John Klingberg and Morgan Rielly type players. But they will take a few years to develop. Wouldn't dropping lower to take a guy like Brad Lambert or Matthew Savoie make more sense?
