The Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher is expected to be active over these next two weeks, trying to make as many trades possible to acquire as many assets for the future as possible.

Both teams are trying to fill voids from injuries, Hurricanes Max Pacioretty is done for the year with a torn Achilles tendon and Golden Knights Mark Stone having season ending back surgery, both need to fill in the points those players would of put up.
Van Riemsdyk isn't at the status of Stone or Pacioretty but can still produce at a high level and for two teams in a win now mentality, Van Riemsdyk is a good plan B for either team.
