Well, Flyers Nation, the decision is made and the Flyers have selected winger Matvei Michkov. As rumours circulated on the Internet regarding whom the Flyers would choose at #7, the fan base and management eagerly awaited the decision. After much debate, General Manager Danny Breer felt that Michkov was the right choice for the Flyers.
There's no doubt that this player has a ton of upside and raw talent that this team desperately needs. His speed, hockey IQ, and lethal shot will be a blessing for a team that has been starved of offence for so long. Michkov, in particular, garnered interest across the league and was expected to finish in the top 10.
However, due to his home country's current war with Ukraine, he will remain with the CHL for another three seasons as per his contract. The earliest Flyers Nation will see him in action is in 2026.

This situation has its benefits, as Michkov will be playing with men in the KHL for three years, which will contribute to his rapid maturity and development. He will then be ready to return to the United States to play for the Flyers when he turns 21 years old.
Another factor that will benefit the Flyers is that they will be able to extend his signing of an ELC (Entry-Level Contract) by three years, allowing them to have greater control over his salary for a longer period than the average rookie.
After being selected, the translator conveyed Michkov's message, expressing his excitement about becoming a Flyer and his hope that this would be the team he plays for.
Adding a player of Michkov's calibre will undoubtedly significantly improve the team in a very short period, signalling a new era for the Flyers.
