As most professional sports fans know, sound checks and video checks are typically conducted before the start of any interview, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted process. These checks provide reassurance that the player being questioned can freely express their thoughts without worrying about unwanted comments.

However, in the 21st century, with the emergence of podcasts and streaming audio interviews, such checks are not always in place, increasing the likelihood of slip-ups occurring.
Recently, the Philadelphia Flyers experienced such an issue when the newly signed player, Garnet Hathaway, was in the midst of an interview. During the conversation, several voices could be overheard making unprofessional statements about the team and the player.
Statements like, "How many times is she going to ask this f question?" were uttered, alongside remarks such as, "Why would anyone want to play here?" and "This team sucks."

Despite the unprofessional comments, Mr. Hathaway did his best to maintain his composure and demeanour throughout the interview.
However, it didn't take long for the footage to go viral, sparking a firestorm across the NHL and within the Flyers' head office.
In response to this incident, President Keith Jones issued a statement expressing deep regret and offering sincere apologies for what transpired.
It is crucial for anyone conducting video podcasting or streaming interviews to diligently perform microphone checks and ensure that the microphones are muted before commencing the conversation. This precautionary step can help prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
