Neither Cam Atkinson nor Sean Couturier have any medical limitations that would prevent them from playing pre-season hockey.

Cam Atkinson, however, was once again held back against the New Jersey Devils, while Sean Couturier took the ice.
Laperriere says that Couturier & Atkinson will have no restrictions tonight, but "I won't be playing them 25 minutes." Said the goal for them tonight is mostly for them to keep shaking the rust off -- this time vs. people who don't know them, rather than teammates in scrimmages.

Coach Ian Lapierre revealed tonight that he would take a precautionary approach.
The team did not want to risk Atkinson's health by allowing him to play on the ice while he felt sore in his neck. Atkinson was reported to be suffering from a lower-body injury, but nothing was specified.
Flyers announce update on Atkinson.

He's a little sore and Flyers didn't want to take the chance. Lower body. Nothing related to his neck injury last year.
According to Lapierre, the main objective for both veterans was to shake off the rust and get them used to playing strangers as opposed to their teammates.
Lapierre seems to be thinking about his veterans' well-being and gradually reintroducing them to the ice, as they won't be getting 20+ minutes.
