Flyers chose alumni over former NHL executive
As the Flyers continue to evaluate their team, one job had remained open and needs to address as soon as possible. The organization decided to separate the general manager and the president of hockey operations jobs to navigate through a rebuilding phase. They felt a two-man team would be a better choice which I agree with.
After several weeks of names circulating the Internet, It's revealed that the Flyers were down to two candidates. Former flyer Keith Jones who has been working for NBC for many years covering the Flyers was on the shortlist along with former NHL star and head coach Eddie old check.
Olzcyk, presented a unique viewpoint for the Flyers as he had not been a player for the organization in his career that spanned 16 years.

Having served as head coach with the Flyers' chief rival the Pittsburgh Penguins for three seasons he was involved with the drafting process and dealing with free agents, he certainly would have given the Flyers a different look and passed along a wealth of hockey knowledge At the executive level.
After a few days after this announcement, the Flyers decided to hire Keith Jones, gave interim general manager Danny Briere his full-time job and removed the interim tags.
I feel this may have been a missed opportunity for the Flyers to make a true change in the culture of the team as I felt Olczyk would have been the better fit.
