Giroux has made it known that the next team he'd like to play for is the Colorado Avalanche. The current Flyers captain told GM Chuck Fletcher the three teams that he wants to go to. Even though the Avalanche is the favorite to sign him, the Minnesota Wild and especially St. Louis Blues are not to be written off the deal yet.

A move from Giroux towards St. Louis would make sense, since he played for their current coach Craig Berube, and he's also played with Brayden Schenn in Philadelphia.
Still, the Avalanche has Giroux's favors but what will it cost for the leading team in the NHL to bring him aboard?

The Flyers will be looking to maximize on the Giroux trade and there's been rumours that the Avalanche is prepared to include their 2023 first round pick in the deal (since they traded their 2022 FRP in a deal for Darcy Kuemper). The Avs could also include prospect Justin Barron, who is 20 years old and a 2020 first round pick and everyone knows the Flyers could use a quality defensemen with a bright future.
However, according to Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers exactly knows what they want. Philadelphia wants to return to the playoffs next year. As that, the priority isn't to get a first round pick, but to acquire a prospect who is ready at the NHL level. Per the Sportsnet insider, prospect defensemen Drew Helleson, a 2nd round pick of the Avalanche last year, could be someone the Flyers could be interested in.
