During the 2021-2022 season, Owen Tippett was acquired by the Flyers from the Panthers for Claude Giroux. The Panthers were in the midst of their window of contention at the time.
Following his arrival in Philadelphia, Tippett took a season to acclimate and broke out last year under John Tortorella's coaching.
My latest for @TFP , on what a contract extension could look like for forward Owen Tippett.
Also touch on the Frost situation and where things may ultimately end up.
Must read on FlyersInsider
During last season's 77 games, he had 27 goals and 49 points, a career high.
While asking for $7.7 million AAV for his next contract extension, he and his agent may be asking for the impossible! While the team may have the cap space, the comparables for Tipett currently sit around $5.5 Million AAV, which is the same pay grade as Travis Konecny.
If that's the case, Tipett's next contract could look like the contract for Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin as a compromise for both parties, which would guarantee him $6.125 Million.
Overall, the team wants to buy up Tipett long-term, so finding the right price to settle on in the long run depends on the two parties, could the two parties be on the outs if a deal is not made soon?
