One of the newer trends that sports networks have done is bring back old players that have retired from the game who either gives good insight on the game or start telling old stories of former players and teammates that would make you split a gut.
Former Flyers defenseman Keith Yandle was doing the intermission report on TNT when he was asked about the first time he blocked a shot in the NHL.
He tells the story about his run-in with former teammate Boyd Gordon and how he almost came to blows with him in a parking lot over blocked shots. Yandle was playing for the Arizona Coyotes And took a heavy shot from Stephane Robidas which damaged his knee. Gordon gave him a hard time and then a few games later Gordon blocked a shot in which Yandle returned the favour.
It certainly gives more humanity and substance to these NHL players knowing that they have these stories that they could share with the audience.
As Yandle and other NHL players that entered retirement face the camera they will get more comfortable and the stories will continue to fly.
