It's been a few weeks since the hockey world was gripped by devastating news following the loss of former NHL Pittsburgh Penguins player Adam Johnson, who suffered a gash to his throat when he collided with the skate of Matt Petgrave.
As leagues across the world are still reeling, many former NHL players have expressed their thoughts on the incident, and some have suggested that this was an intentional strike to Johnson's throat.
Former Flyers superstar forward Jeremy Roenick explained during an interview that he felt it was completely intentional and that this form of protecting the defensive zone is not how coaches teach you at the beginning of learning the game of hockey.

Petgrave, who plays for the Sheffield Steelers, was taken into custody earlier today as investigators combed through the evidence and spoke to several experts on whether they felt this was an intentional move or a pure accident.
As Johnson tried to enter the Steelers' zone, Petgrave, in an unorthodox move, kicked his skate and leg upward. With both players moving closer to one another, Petgrave's skate smashed into Johnson's neck. Johnson was held on the ice with emergency medical attention and then was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries not too long after.
The NHL has reviewed this incident and has made recommendations that all AHL affiliates and teams below make neck guard shirts available. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Johnson family during this tragic time.
