Playing under the guidance of head coach John Tortorella can be a tough and gruelling proposition, as the 65-year-old bench boss adheres to the old-school belief that playing well equates to ice time.
As Tortorella begins his second season as head coach, the message remains unchanged. Players need to be held accountable for poor play and will not be allowed to participate in a game until they comprehend what needs to be done.
Frost was benched for the home opener against the Vancouver Canucks. Tortorella felt that Frost had not played poorly overall; however, other teammates had been performing better than him.

Tortorella continued to express his thoughts, stating that this year is different due to the presence of young players like
Bobby Brink and
Tyson Foerster, who are vying for a full-time role as a Flyer. The constant push from these young players will eliminate any complacency that might have crept in with Frost.
Frost himself had moved up and down the lineup last season for a variety of reasons. Injuries were the primary cause of his positional shifts, going from third-line center to first-line center at times.
However, it seems that Tortorella was attempting to find a suitable spot for him to regain his form.
After today's practice, Frost made his first comments regarding his benching during the home opener. He understood that he had not played well enough to be in that game and had to be very diplomatic about it, as it was a blow to anyone's ego.
It remains to be seen whether Frost will sit out a second game, or if Tortorella will give him another chance to redeem himself. The Flyers will remain at home and play against the Edmonton Oilers today at 7:30 PM Eastern.
