The career of Shayne Gostisbehere has been nothing short of interesting. He was widely expected to have a long-term stint with the Flyers after being selected by them in the third round, 78th overall, during the 2012 entry draft.

During his tenure with the Flyers, spanning seven seasons, Gostisbehere exhibited great promise from the outset, posting impressive numbers. Notably, he achieved his career-best performance, reaching the 65-point mark in one season.
However, as subsequent seasons unfolded, the player known as "Ghost" faced a series of debilitating injuries that significantly hindered his progress and slowed his performance.
Compounded by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team's former general manager, Chuck Fletcher, made a bold and contentious decision to trade Gostisbehere to the Arizona Coyotes for minimal compensation. This decision sparked considerable backlash among the fanbase, as many believed that the beleaguered defenseman could have fetched a more substantial return.

Currently, Gostisbehere has joined the ranks of the Detroit Red Wings with the hope of injecting fresh energy into the team. During an interview with the Detroit Free Press, he candidly discussed his experiences with the Flyers, stating,
"I had some good years in Philly, but injuries eventually caught up with me. It's also a matter of falling out of favour there."

His hope to return to form and be an effective player could happen in Detroit.

«Steve [Yzerman, Detroit general manager] knew my strengths on the power play and that would be a big part of me going there,» Gostisbehere said. The biggest thing for me on a one-year deal is, I need to have the right opportunity to show what I can do. I thought it was a great fit."

Shayne Gostisbehere hasn't played for the Philadelphia Flyers since the 2020-21 season. The defenseman was traded to Arizona in what felt like a change-of-scenery situation.
Gostisbehere, 30, now is in Detroit, looking especially to help the Red Wings' power play. He signed in Detroit as a free agent in July after playing 134 games with Arizona and 23 games with Carolina.
Gostisbehere played 381 games over seven seasons in Philadelphia. The Flyers received money in the trade with Arizona. The Red Wings offer a good opportunity for Ghost, who signed a one-year, $4.1 million contract. Detroit's power play ranked 17th in the league, so there is room for improvement.
«Steve [Yzerman, Detroit general manager] knew my strengths on the power play and that would be a big part of me going there,» Gostisbehere said.
The biggest thing for me on a one-year deal is, I need to have the right opportunity to show what I can do. I thought it was a great fit.

«They're a young, hungry team with a lot of skill, and that fits my game perfectly in the sense I like to play offensively, and when you're surrounded by skill, it makes it work. I'm definitely excited for the opportunity.»

Throughout his NHL journey, Gostisbehere has participated in 538 games, scoring 87 goals and contributing 224 assists, amounting to a total of 311 points. He has also accumulated 187 penalty minutes.
According to capfriendly.com, he currently holds a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings, carrying a cap hit of $4.125 million. Despite being a 30-year-old defenseman, Gostisbehere aspires to embrace this opportunity with the Red Wings, aiming to revitalize his career and build anew from this point onward.
