We keep learning more and more of Friday night's block buster deal between the Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames. Everyone knew the Calgary Flames had to trade Matthew Tkachuk but the question remains why did they chose the Florida Panthers when they could of chose others instead?

Well it's been revealed All of this trade part of it was Johnathan Huberdeau had to waive his no trade clause meaning he had a huge say on where he was going to play next.Today CapFriendly just published an interesting detail:
"Condition regarding fourth round pick from Calgary involved:
If the 2025 first round pick, which was traded by the Panthers to the Flames, if it is a lottery pick and is in the pool for the 2025 lottery, that pick becomes a 2026 first round pick.
Must read on FlyersInsider
Also, the fourth-round pick in 2025 that was traded by the Flames to the Panthers would become a 2026 fourth-round pick." - CapFriendly
So here's the full and official trade:
Florida:
Matthew Tkachuk +
Conditional 4th round pick 2025 (which may become a 4th round pick 2026)
Calgary:
Jonathan Huberdeau +
MacKenzie Weegar +
Cole Schwindt +
Conditional 1st round pick 2025 may become a 1st round pick 2026
The other part of this deal people were talking about was Matthew Tkachuk signed a 8 year deal with the Panthers, while both Johnathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar are unrestricted free agents next summer. According to hockey insider David Pagnotta that was part of Calgary Flames General Manager Brad Treliving's plan trading Huberdeau and Weegar possibly at the trade deadline for a huge return.

The Flames unfortunately are going to have to retool after the departure of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk Treliving believes this was the best move to quickly restock the Flames going forward.
Recently, the Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reported that several rival teams in the NHL have already contacted the Flames about the possibility of moving Johnathan Huberdeau already.
"As I mentioned a few minutes ago on SiriusXMNHL , some teams have already inquired about Huberdeau, wondering if Flames will consider flipping him," said Pagnotta on Saturday all though none of the teams have been revealed.
