Valeri Nichushkin, the Russian forward for the Colorado Avalanche, has been absent from the team for almost a week due to undisclosed "personal reasons." The Avalanche has been tight-lipped about Nichushkin's absence, but according to an incident report from the Seattle Police Department, he was involved in a crisis situation that took place at the team's hotel last Saturday, just hours before Game 3 against the Kraken.

Per the report, Avalanche employees discovered an intoxicated woman named Irina in Nichushkin's hotel room, prompting the team doctor, Bradley G. Changstrom, to call 911. Changstrom believed that Irina was too drunk to leave the hotel on her own.
In the report, Changstrom also stated that Irina hit him, although he declined to press charges. According to Irina, a "bad person" took her passport, and she shouldn't have come to the United States. Seattle Police detained her for being a danger to others and took her away in an ambulance.
Nichushkin left the hotel with team security, and his current whereabouts are unknown. He missed Game 3 and has been absent from Games 4 and 5, and there is no news of his return for Game 6. The Avalanche is currently behind in the series against the Kraken, 3-2, and will face elimination on Friday if they don't win.
Nichushkin has been a valuable player for the Avalanche this season, scoring 17 goals and making 30 assists in 53 games. He also stood out during Colorado's Stanley Cup run in 2022, scoring nine goals in 20 playoff games, which earned him an eight-year, $49 million contract extension in the offseason.
