The Flyers seems to be signing a lot of depth players right now. Most recently, Jackson Cates, as he signs a one-year deal. Is this to help the AHL affiliate team? Has management lost faith in the veteran players? Regardless of any reason why, the top guys need to step up to their potential and play. One player in particular is New Jersey Native James Van Riemsdyk.
The New Jersey native has not lived up to the potential of the contract. JVR signed a 5 year / $35,000,000 contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, including a $5,000,000 signing bonus, $35,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $7,000,000. In 2022-23, Van Riemsdyk will earn a base salary of $4,000,000 and a signing bonus of $1,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $7,000,000. See detailed contract info below.
A big reason why "Johnny G" is probably not here, JVR needs to step it up big next season. In 82 Games played, he has 24 goals and 14 assists gaining 38n points. Not exactly where the numbers should be with his pay. For the 2021-2022 season, he was a -33.
