Blake Wheeler, the captain of the Winnipeg Jets, had groin surgery on Friday and will be out for AT LEAST one month. Wheeler, the Jets' anchor during their surprise success, has nine goals and seventeen assists through 29 games this season.

Despite the Jets' most recent win over the Predators in Nashville, a difficult setback came right after. After missing the second period due to a shot he blocked with his groin, Wheeler came back for the third and helped his team win 2-1 in overtime.
Coach Rick Bowness said the following after Wheeler missed the Jets' morning skate:
»Incredible he played the third period through that injury. He's one tough cookie,» said Bowness.

Additionally, Wheeler's injured teammate Nate Schmidt, a defender, is also out and expected to be sidelined for at least four to six weeks and suffered his injury the same game.
