Fighting in hockey used to have two purposes in the old days. It would change the momentum of the game, especially when one team is being demolished by the other.
The other would be to settle a score from a dirty hit or a terrible play that would anger the player.
In this modern age of hockey, fighting has become extinct as the commissioner and the NHL management are trying to get the game less violent and not as entertaining.
The Flyers were in Ottawa tonight to play the Senators and the Sens fans were given a fight that was quite entertaining.

Both benches were on their feet and smacking the boards with their stick as well as the fans in the stands were quite pleased with what they saw.
As for the game itself, there were many penalties and lots of seesaw action with scoring which ended up making it a very entertaining hockey game.
The Senators ended up winning the game 5-4 in overtime.
