The Flyers currently rank third in the Metro division, two slots below the Flyers rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers are off to a historic season start, alongside goaltender Carter Hart who has won 4/4 of his games, last done by Ron Hextall in the late 1980's.

The Flyers held a record of four wins and one loss heading into their most recent game against the San Jose Sharks who sit dead last in the NHL, but the Flyers did not show the fight they did against a struggling team, and lost 3-0.
Sadly, some Flyers fans feel the need to point fingers after the team takes a loss, this time they were pointed in the wrong direction, but at Flyers head coach John Tortorella. Torts decided to bench Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny for the entire third period that was twenty minutes due to the sloppiness in play that he noticed.
Torts was asked after the game about his decision making behind benching the two, and he stated ''I will leave that to be discussed in the locker room''.
