From the top down, the Flyers organization is undergoing a rebuilding phase, which has never been done before.
Ever since the team's inception in 1967, the Flyers have had a style of leadership and ways to run things. Over the last number of years, their general managers have always chosen free agents and older players to build their rosters to try to compete for a Stanley Cup.
With the new age NHL, where teams have decided to do full rebuild phases where they finish in the last third of the standings to lock themselves into the draft lottery while trading off major assets and role players to help them gain draft picks and young prospects to bring in a new way of constructing align up.
Saying all this, the Flyers have kept some of their traditions in this new rebuild including revealing their new jerseys.

The NHL draft will become the next focal point for this rebuild as the Flyers will select 7th overall in a draft that will be the deepest in 20 years.
