New Jersey Devils prospect Luke Hughes has revealed that he almost missed last year's World Junior Championships in favor of attending Michigan's annual softball tournament.
"Every year, the Michigan Wolverines hockey team participates in a softball tournament on campus, and defenceman Luke Hughes was asked about skipping out on it this year", read the post from Elite Prospects Instagram post.
Hughes has openly said he wanted to be able to participate in the tournament but that he had to go play for Team USA at the 2022 IIHF World Championships.
Hughes, 18, was drafted fourth overall in the 2021 NHL draft joining his brother Jack Hughes in New Jersey.
Playing for the University of Michigan last year along the likes of Matthew Beniers, Owen Power, Kent Johnson and Brendan Brisson, Hughes had 17 goals and 22 assists for 39 points in 41 games as a defenceman.
