Both NHL stars, Mackenzie Weegar and Nathan MacKinnon are rumored to be signing a new contract soon according to Mark Easson of nhlrumors.com.

Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast commenting on Weegar:
So at the Flames golf tournament on Wednesday, he said they are working on something and hope to get it done.

I have a feeling that something is going to be around Hampus Lindholms extension in Boston. When you look at when Lindholm was traded from the Ducks to the Bruins, he signed for eight years at $6.5 million. I think that's kind of the general area where the Flames and Weegar are looking at here.
Must read on FlyersInsider

In 80 games last season Weegar registered eight goals, 36 assists. He logged 23:22 of playing time and had 156 blocks and 179 hits.
To state that he will be an excellent addition to the Calgary Flames blueline is an understatement.
Per Weegar,
We're trying to get something done and hopefully we'll get something done soon.

Turning to MacKinnon, it seems like he could very well become the highest paid NHL player when he receives his contract extension. If so, he will need to exceed the eight-year $100 million pact of Connor McDavid.
MacKinnon was playing it very coy when asked by Friedman if he may become the highest paid NHL player.
MacKinnon,
You have to ask Pat Brisson (his agent), I don't know. I'm hoping that we'll get it done pretty soon. Colorado is the only place I want to be. That's for sure. So, love Joe, CMak. Those guys are great. It's just a little business. Sorry to not answer your question but I'm not going to answer that question.

MacKinnon loves playing in Colorado, and has no intention of leaving. The Av's will have about $26.6 million in cap space for the 2023-24 season, and will more than likely spend half of it on MacKinnon.
And, why not? He's an awesome player who was underpaid with his current cap hit of just $6.3 million AAV, due to expire after the upcoming season.
His career stats reflect the type of player who exceeds expectations year after year. He has 242 goals, 406 assists in 638 games. That includes 71 power play tallies with 135 assists.
In the postseason, he is even more valuable. He has added 41 goals, 52 assists in 70 games, including 13 power play goals.
So... is he worth say $13 million in today's market? You decide.
