Injuries affect many players' careers to the point that retirement is thought about. Ondrej Kase, a forward for the Carolina Hurricanes, is sadly the newestexample of this. He has played in the NHL for six years with different teams, but has only appeared in one game this season due to injuries.

Since playing in his first game of the season on October 13th, Kase has been in concussion protocol. Thankfully, he has been taking part in team practices since December 16th, though he has been wearing a no-contact jersey because his concussion symptoms are still present.
After signing a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes as a free agent this summer, Kase is now reportedly not going to play another NHL game and is instead planning to return to his native Czech Republic to play hockey and sign a deal with HC Verva of the Czech league.
As was already noted, Kase was about to enter his seventh season in the NHL, therefore it is pretty disappointing to learn that he has run into trouble with concussions which will result in his retirement from the NHL. If he does have any intentions of going back home, he will probably use this off-season to rest up and make sure he is clear of symptoms before joining HC Verva of the Czech league.
