The team's power-play performance through 13 games has yielded a 7.3% success rate under his assistant Rocky Thompson. None of the 19 opportunities have been successful, in total.
Sean Couturier mentioned recently that the special teams killed the team in the 2-1 loss against the San Jose Sharks in order to be a well-rounded team.
While Tortorella mentions that the team needs to work harder and not panic as a result of the finishing problem, he insists that the team needs to put its head down and work harder.
«We're not going to just blow it up. We're trying different people in different spots on it and see what happens,» Tortorella said. «But we'll just continue to work at it. .... We don't want to panic. We just want to tinker with it a little bit and see if we can get some confidence on it. And some of it is the finish, you end up with some chances and we just don't finish. If we get one or two maybe things loosen up and we start banging some in.»
That's a typical Tortorella answer, but in the long run, something needs to change quickly.
