Filip Lindberg, the 24-year-old goaltender for the Pittsburgh Penguins, has made a move across the pond to sign a two-year contract with TPS Turku in the Finnish Liiga. Lindberg's decision comes after a challenging season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL, where he posted a 6-11-1 record and an .896 save percentage.
Selected 197th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2019 NHL Draft, Lindberg opted to join the Pittsburgh organization in 2021. Initially projected to need a few years of development before reaching the NHL, Lindberg's progress seemed to hit a plateau. As a result, he has chosen to take his talents to Finland and continue his career with TPS Turku.
The two-year deal will keep Lindberg in Finland until at least 2025, providing him with an opportunity to further refine his skills and regain his momentum. The change of scenery may be just what Lindberg needs to reignite his development and potentially make a return to North American ice in the future.
