The Flyers' prospect pool has been improving for the past two seasons as the organization continues to draft excellent early-round picks who will make a difference to the organization in the future. The Flyers already have several in the pipeline, including Ronnie Attard, Elliot Desnoyers, and Helge Grans, to name a few.

However, one prospect stands out among all that is Boston College forward Cutter Gauthier. The 19-year-old left-winger and center, standing at six feet three inches, and weighing 194 lbs, was drafted in the first round, 5th overall, in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
According to eliteprospects.com, his array of talents and tangibles is off the charts. He's extremely efficient offensively, possesses a good defensive mind, and is not afraid to shoot the puck while driving it toward the net.

This all-around player is what the Flyers need and the reason why they drafted him. During his inaugural season with Boston College, Gauthier amassed 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points in 32 games. At the time when he made his decision, he chose to recommit for another season with Boston College rather than join the Flyers this season.
This begs the question: will Gauthier join the Flyers later this year?
There's certainly a possibility he could, due to several factors. Firstly, he would have to wait until his Boston College season is over, as he does not have an entry-level deal signed with the Flyers. It would be a matter of formality if he chose to join the team and lock himself into a three-year contract.
Both Boston College and the Flyers are enjoying great starts to their seasons. The Eagles are currently on a 9-2-1 start through their first 12 games, with Gauthier leading with 11 goals scored and 67 shots taken.
The Flyers, on the other hand, have put together a solid run, winning 10 of their first 19 games and are tied with the Detroit Red Wings for a wild card spot.
If the Flyers continue to improve their record and their play, especially with their defensive style, there is a case for Gauthier to conclude his time with Boston College and join the Flyers near the end of the season. If he feels he would benefit from a chance on the big stage, Gauthier would be a huge boost to their power play and offensive numbers and could help the Flyers secure their first playoff spot since 2020.
The Flyers and the fans have much to be excited about with this prospect and the potential he has to bring to the team. Adding Matvei Michkov, and owning two first-round draft picks in next year's draft, will also give management and the coaching staff more options as those players begin to develop.
