As the Philadelphia Flyers season came to an end on April 13 it meant the annual exit interviews where in store. The interviews left some answers and created more questions, like the real possibility of moving on from some players.
Interim General Manager Danny Briere spoke to the Flyers press and spoke about where the Flyers currently sit going into the off season.
There is also talks about the "Interim" handle being removed as he will be the full-time GM, it is just a matter of when. Danny said he doesn't know of a timeline for when the Flyers will remove his interim tag/name a GM or hire a president of hockey operations.
Briere knows that a rebuild will take awhile, it is not an easy fix. He knows that but he also knows everyone agrees it needs to be done right. "How fast or how long it's gonna take, the players will dictate that. Everyone is on board... we all agree that this needs to be done the right way. We may need a little patience from the fans in that regard, there might be some growing pains to go through."

Danny Briere is pleased with how his season went with John Tortorella, "Torts bought in to what we are trying to do." Forming a good relationship which is good for moving forward. Especially heading into the NHL Draft. Briere is not afraid to try and move up in the draft, considering all offers and options. All assets are on the table it just has to be the right offer.
"There's gonna be a lot of discussions... they (coaches) see something different. They deal with the players a few feet away when the game is happening, some of the things we don't see in the press box. The information we get from the coaching staff is extremely important as well."
On the idea of draft picks and the importance of them, Briere said they had informed Jay O'Brien's camp that they won't be signing him. Flyers still trying to figure out if the second-round compensatory pick is in 2023 or 2024.
Briere needs to figure out what the Flyers really have here and the potential of every individual. He doesn't want to "block" out the youth, he wants to take a long look at the Flyers system this off season. Some Flyers already think they have the pieces they need,
Nicolas Deslauriers said, "We have the group to turn it around quicker than people probably think." A lot of the players have a positive outlook from the year and are very excited to see what next year holds.
Opposite of John Tortorella it seems like Danny Briere would like to bring Tony DeAngelo back in for his final year of his deal. Said "it hasn't been a fun situation with how his season ended". Tony DeAngelo was a healthy scratch for the last 5 games of the season. As tensions flared between DeAngelo and Tortorella, Flyers fans thought Tony was for sure done after this season. As John Tortorella stated in his interview that the defense is not set in stone and that there are no locks. Meaning that some of the youth could push the veterans for jobs on the back end.
Danny Briere is always open and helpful to the staff and players, a very experienced and likable guy. He knows the room very well and John Tortorella speaks very highly of Briere. It should be a good off season for the Flyers as they look towards the NHL Draft.
