Ron Hextall nearly completed the trade of the decade when he was GM of the Flyers

That would have been absolutely huge.

In Philadelphia, Flyers' GM's are often criticized because they didn't make the "big move". But back in 2014, Ron Hextall, who was the team's GM at the time, nearly completed the trade of the decade.
According to Dale Tallon, who was the GM of the Florida Panthers at the time, Ron Hextall made an offer he almost couldn't refused for the first overall pick in 2014. However, Tallon asked for Wayne Simmonds, but Hextall didn't want to part ways with him.
As a reminder, the first overall pick in 2014 was Aaron Ekblad. Since his NHL debut, the defenseman registered 291 points in 554 games. When we think about it, having Ekblad would have fixed a LOT of issues on the first pair.
Imagine a pair composed by Aaron Ekblad and Ivan Provorov...
