Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Russian institutions have had to face sanctions from Western countries. Of course, the most talked about are the economic sanctions, but sports federations had also their word to say.
For example, the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) cancelled the Champions League Final that was originally planned to be played in St. Petersburg. Instead, the final will be held in Paris this year.
Russian players who need visas to play in the NHL are also concerned about what could happen to them in the following weeks/months. On the "32 Thoughts" segment last night on Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman said that they were afraid about what the US and Canadian governments will decide on visas for Russian players.
That is certainly something that we'll have to keep an eye on, even though for the moment, I don't think that it'll be a problem for them. But things could change...
