In addition to the awaited Travis Konecny injury update from today, Chuck Fletcher also gave an update on Sean Couturier's injury status and rehab during his pre-trade deadline media availability. Fletcher said Couturier is skating, which we already knew, but he went even further than that saying that so far the organization is pleased with Couturier's rehab process and they believe they can get him healthy. According to Fletcher, Couturier has reported his back is "feeling great" after the second surgical procedure.
The biggest question now is when will Couturier make it back to knock off some rust? The answer: Possibly this season. But maybe not until next season. Fletcher said he is not sure there will be "enough run way" this season for him to return to play in any games this season.
So first, the bad news: there's still a chance he'll miss this entire season.
However, on the other hand, the good news: Couturier's second surgery appears to have been a success. Or at least, it was more successful than the original procedure, and he appears to officially be on his way back to playing hockey competitively again.
