The Colorado Avalanche is facing a challenging situation with their salary cap, which means they may need to let go of some players. It seems like Erik Johnson, a former Stanley Cup Champion and longtime player for Colorado, won't be re-signed by the team.

As of July 1st, Johnson will be exploring his options for another season elsewhere. With the team still in the early stages of rebuilding, it's crucial to have experienced players to guide and mentor the younger players.
This would be a great get for the #Flyers. A veteran RHD with championship experience who can help out York/Zamula/Andrea.

Also doesn't really block anyone and could be flipped at the TDL when a contender talks themselves into it if he's producing.

Johnson, with his post-season experience and Stanley Cup ring, would be an excellent asset to help develop players like Cam York and Eegor Zamula.
This season, Johnson played 63 games and 7 post-season games but logged the lowest ice time in his career as a third-pairing defenseman.
He also missed 19 games due to a broken ankle, and despite his lengthy career, he's never played a full 82-game season.
Given his $42 million extension starting in 2016-2017, it's unlikely that he'll be able to demand more than the league minimum salary.
