TNT purposely misspells Pittsburgh and Philadelphia?

Yesterday, Thursday April 14, the NHL on TNT crew decided to put up an add promoting a game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers. Oddly enough, for the game which would take place April 24, the network social media editor did not think to double check the spelling of their advertisement.

Both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia were spelled incorrectly; reading, 'PITTSBURG' and 'PHILADELPIA'.

The lack of attention to this detail and regard is shocking and makes you wonder if the person who wrote that really cares, or if it's just a prank. TNT is a very prominent sports network with NBA on TNT which features the likes of Charles Barkley and Shaq. The Philadelphia 76ers play on their airs all the time. This makes me think it's just a blatant jab and attempt to discredit hockey.

Since the NHL on TNT has Wayne Gretzky as a pundit, this revelation is just shocking. As one fan puts it,

"It'd be understandable if they misspelled Penguins or Flyers because they didn't have hockey before, but they misspelled city names where their own network has aired for decades!"

Just look at how TNT decided to announce their new deal with the NHL just recently. Look closely at the Oilers player and tell me what you see wrong.

Did somebody forgot to tell them Andrew Ference retired?
