Last season, the Columbus Blue Jackets made some impressive draft picks, selecting Denton Mateychuk, David Jiricek, and Jordan Dumais during the 2022 draft.

Even though they are content with their choices, they are still a bit salty about the Philadelphia Flyers snagging Cutter Gauthier before they could.
More on Cutter Gauthier, who was drafted fifth overall last summer by the #Flyers. Told by multiple sources that #CBJ hoped he'd drop to them at sixth.

They got D David Jiricek, who also has a real high ceiling, but ... imagine Gauthier's size & shot up front in the Cbus system.

Reportedly, the Columbus Blue Jackets front office was displeased that Chuck Fletcher and the Philadelphia Flyers took Gauthier before they had the chance to select him with the 6th pick.
Despite our previous criticisms of Fletcher, this move by the Flyers is another win for them, as they continue to build a strong pipeline of prospects, with Gauthier being a valuable addition.
Instead of Gauthier, Columbus chose Jiricek at number 6, who is still a highly regarded defenseman from that draft class, but lacks the same level of skill as Gauthier, particularly when it comes to his shot.
