In any rebuilding organization, general managers become shrewd dealmakers, seeking potential ways to acquire assets, even if it means taking on unfavourable contracts and using the owner's money.

In reality, these contracts are often protected by insurance and these players are usually unable to play again, which means the owner doesn't pay the value, only absorbing the cap hit.
Some NHL teams have elevated this approach to an art form, with the Arizona Coyotes being a notable example. This organization believes that taking on long-term injury reserve players and absorbing bad contracts can help amass a wealth of draft picks and prospects, as they leverage these deals to assist other teams by financing their money.
It appears that the Flyers are willing to adopt a similar strategy, as they've announced their readiness to accept unfavourable contracts in exchange for acquiring assets.

Currently, the Flyers have $877,905 in cap space and possess five draft picks within the first three rounds of this year's upcoming draft. The organization also retains Ryan Ellis, who is owed $6.25 million for the next four seasons but is unable to play.
It would be in the Flyers' best interest to embrace some of these contracts, as obtaining first, second, or even third-round draft picks, or prospects ready for NHL play, would greatly benefit their rebuilding phase.
General Manager Danny Briere has emphasized his desire to distinguish the team from the previous administration by pursuing bold and creative approaches to accelerate this rebuild.
Flyers fans and the rest of the NHL eagerly await to see if the Flyers are indeed willing to tread this path."
