The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are done and if your team did not make this year's postseason, the time has finally come. The NHL entry draft will be held in Montreal on July 7 and 8.

For Flyers fans, this an opportunity to reset and resettle into a new era. A post Giroux, Tortorella commanded era in which we begin by drafting fifth overall. With so much at stake, the player who looks like he'll be dawning orange and black is a guy we haven't much talked about, Cutter Gauthier.
In TSN Draft head Bob McKenzie's final draft rankings, Slafkovsky overtakes Shane Wright at first while Cutter Gauthier, the 6'2 200 lbs American overtakes David Jiricek for 5th place.

Flyers reporter Dan Silver says that the Flyers taking Cutter Gauthier is very real and believes that its quite likely that's the direction Fletcher goes if he doesn't trade the pick.
This season playing for the U-18 USNTDP, Gauthier's stock rose after an impressive 34 goals and 31 assists in 54 games. Gauthier's size skating and quick instincts make him a good choice for Philly. Especially given he is expected to play center in the NCAA next season.
Lastly, take Bob McKenzie's ranking with a grain of salt. None of the ranking he unveils are his own opinion. He has contacts with teams and front offices who tell him their draft board while he simply averages the rankings out. Nevertheless, Gauthier is a high end talent the Flyers need and should seriously consider at five.
