Numerous NHL teams are experiencing dismal starts to their new season, including expected strugglers like the Chicago Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers. The Anaheim Ducks, currently undergoing a rebuilding or retooling phase, are also facing challenges.

Conversely, teams like the Edmonton Oilers are off to a dreadful start despite high preseason expectations.
One team that stands out for its poor start is the Columbus Blue Jackets. They find themselves amid a nine-game winless streak. The team has benched two-star players, Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine.

A player who was anticipating a fresh start and change of scenery was the former Flyers defenseman, Ivan Provorov. Provorov, involved in a three-team trade with the Los Angeles Kings and the Flyers, landed with the Blue Jackets.
His desire for change was fueled by a controversial incident last year when he chose not to wear pride colours during warm-up on Pride Night.
Provorov was back in Philadelphia to face off against his old club when the Blue Jackets played the Flyers. The Flyers handed them another loss, winning 5-2. Provy managed to notch one assist, was a +1 and had 24:52 in ice time.
Despite the Blue Jackets' struggles, Provorov has had a relatively decent individual season, playing nineteen games, scoring one goal, providing 11 assists for a total of 12 points, but maintaining a -4 plus-minus rating.
As the Blue Jackets continue to falter, and with the acquisition of Adam Fantilli through last year's lottery pick, they may be in line for another lottery pick if their performance doesn't improve.
