A Legacy in Hockey

Jim Nill, the Stars' General Manager, spoke of Doug Overton's immense contribution to the team's history. Overton played a pivotal role in shaping the 1999 Stars, a team that etched its name in franchise history by winning the Stanley Cup that year. Nill had this to say about him:
"Doug was a scout's scout. He knew the league and the players as well as anyone in the business. His role in helping build the '99 championship team can't be overstated, and he will be missed by the entire hockey community."

Overton's tenure with the Stars spanned 18 years, during which he became an integral part of the organization. His impact extended to the NHL Draft, where his keen eye for talent led to the selection of key players. Jamie Benn, the current captain of the Stars, was a fifth-round gem discovered under Overton's guidance. Notable names like Roope Hintz, Trevor Daley, Jussi Jokinen, Jason Robertson, and Jake Oettinger also found their way to the Stars thanks to his efforts.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time. Doug Overton's legacy in the Dallas Stars organization and the world of hockey will always be remembered.
